How big is a spirit?

How big is a spirit? Or maybe I should say, How little is a spirit? They are certainly big enough or small enough to get the job done. It really doesn't matter. What really maters is, whether it's a good spirit, or a bad spirit. First let's lay a little ground work. Let's look at all the different kinds of spirits listed in the Bible.

The Spirit of:
There is the Spirit of God, of Jacob, of wisdom, of jealousy, of the Lord, of Tilgathpilneser, of the courts of the house of the LORD, of the Philistines, of Cyrus, of princes, of man, of the ruler, of judgment, of knowledge, of Egypt, of deep sleep, of the humble, of heaviness, of the kings of the Medes, of the living creature, spirit of the holy gods (note the small g), of whoredoms, of Zerubbabel, of Joshua, of grace, of your Father, of an unclean devil, of infirmity, of truth, of divination, of holiness, of life, of Christ, of him, of bondage, of slumber, of the world, of meekness, of his Son, of promise, of mind, of his mouth, of fear, of glory, of antichrist, of prophecy.

You can see that there are a lot of different kinds of spirits. One for all conditions that mankind can be involved in. It's obvious that we all have a spirit. There is a spirit of groups of peoples. Spirits have a great influence in our lives. It appears that they have jobs to do. They are undoubtedly specialized.

Even the angels have spirits:
(Psa 104:4) Who maketh his angels spirits[1]; his ministers a flaming fire:

1 "SPIRITS": 7307. ruwach, roo'-akh; from H7306; wind; by resemblance breath, i.e. a sensible (or even violent) exhalation; fig. life, anger, unsubstantiality; by extens. a region of the sky; by resemblance spirit, but only of a rational being (includ. its expression and functions):--air, anger, blast, breath, X cool, courage, mind, X quarter, X side, spirit ([-ual]), tempest, X vain, ([whirl-]) wind (-y).

Just above is from the Old Testament. Just below is spirit from the new testament.

4151. pneuma, pnyoo'-mah; from G4154; a current of air, i.e. breath (blast) or a breeze; by anal. or fig. a spirit, i.e. (human) the rational soul, (by impl.) vital principle, mental disposition, etc., or (superhuman) an angel, daemon, or (divine) God, Christ's spirit, the Holy Spirit:--ghost, life, spirit (-ual, -ually), mind. Comp. G5590.

Note one of the interpretations is the rational soul.

Who owns our souls? The next verse tells us.

(Ezek 18:4) Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

Things you may or may not do will no doubt help determine what God does with you soul, but He already owns it.

Who made the souls and spirits? The next two verses tells us.

(Isa 57:16) For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth: for the spirit should fail before me, and the souls which I have made.

(Psa 104:4) Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire:

Examples of some of the different spirits:
Isa 11:2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

Song 8:6 Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.

Isa 29:10 For the LORD hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered.

Isa 29:11 And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed:

Isa 29:12 And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned.

Isa 29:13 Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:

Isa 29:14 Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.

Isa 29:15 Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the LORD, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us?

Isa 57:15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.

1 John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

(Rev 19:10) And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy[1].

1 "PROPHECY": 4394. propheteia, prof-ay-ti'-ah; from G4396 ("prophecy"); prediction (scriptural or other):--prophecy, prophesying.

Exo 31:3 And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,

Do you have one of the above spirits?

Now for how big or how little spirits are:
Gen 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

God is the Almighty God, so naturally His Spirit is Almighty. One can assume that there is no larger spirit. For His is the Holy Spirit, and It is every where. Any spirit, other than God's, has to be smaller in every way and must obtain it's powers from God. After all he made all the spirits and He has complete control over them.

Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Lots of Satan's evil spirits has infiltrated into every major system of today, including the churches.

1 Cor 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

The Spirit of God can also be small enough to dwell inside us. He sure is flexible. But when God's spirit is in us, there is no more room for other spirits, and that is a good thing.

The next two verses demonstrate just how small a spirit can be. This man had lots of them inside himself. An old saying: Dynamite comes in small packages.

Mark 5:8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.

Mark 5:9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.

3003. legeon, leg-eh-ohn'; of Lat. or.; a "legion", i.e. Rom. regiment (fig.):--legion.

A Roman legion was an infantry unit consisting of  heavily armed soldiers, equipped with shields, armor, helmets, spears and swords. In the early republic, the strength of a legion was about 3,000 men.;

Unclean spirits:
Mat 12:43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.

Mat 12:44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.

Mat 12:45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

Luke 11:33 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.

How big, or how little your spirit is, really doesn't matter. It what kind, of spirit you have. Others are going to see. You really can't hide it. Now just like that last verse, if the spirit of God is in you, let it shine, Let it shine, let it shine.

Thanks, for allowing me, to share this with you. Remember, to always, study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

In His Word,
